Pastor of Congregational Care and Worship

Reverend Dr. Janet P. Caldwell, a native of Mount Vernon, NY, raised in Hackensack, NJ, moved to Maryland in 1979 to attend the University of Maryland, College Park. During that time, she united with the First Baptist Church, Inc., of North Brentwood and began serving as the church’s Minister of Music for the next twenty years. She accepted the call to the preaching ministry in 1998, and in 1999, Dr. Caldwell was licensed to preach and was ordained in 2002.

Dr. Caldwell serves as Pastor of Congregational Care and Worship, for which she is responsible for the spiritual care of the “sick/and shut in” and bereaved parishioners of the FBCNB family. In this capacity, she oversees the Congregational Care Team, a small team comprised of members of the Deacon Ministry and she assists the Senior Pastor with guiding families through the planning of funeral services for their loved one.

As Pastor of Congregational Care and Worship, she is also responsible for the faithful service of the following worship ministries of the church: Music, Dance, Drama, Host/Hostess, Health and Wellness, Photography and the “You’re Never Alone” Ministry, a grief ministry. Additionally, she works indirectly with the Media Ministry and coordinates the worship duties and assignments for the Pastoral Staff members, as she also facilitates Adult Bible Study classes.

Her earned educational degrees are as follows:

  • Bachelor of Music (B.Mus.), 1975, Virginia State University, Petersburg, Virginia

  • Master of Education in Guidance and Counseling (M.Ed.), 1997, Bowie State University, Bowie, Maryland

  • Master of Divinity (M.Div.), 2004, Howard University, Washington, DC.

  • Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.), 2022, Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology, Virginia Union University, Richmond, Virginia

She is grateful to God for choosing her to be an instrument used among many others to extend her family lineage. She is the proud mother of three beautiful adult children and the grandmother of five adorable grandsons.

Her favorite scripture, among many, is Psalm 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God...”
